What’s the difference between Photo and Portrait mode on iPhone?

Short answerPhoto mode takes a normal photo. Portrait mode blurs the background to make the subject stand out and adds lighting effects. On recent iPhones, Photo mode can capture depth automatically so you can turn on the Portrait effect afterwards.

Portrait mode works best with a clear subject a little distance from the background, in decent light.
